It's hard to believe that it's already mid-May, but it is, and that means that summer is almost upon us. BLF Press will be busy this summer, so we thought we'd share some of our upcoming events with you. I also want to share that our first title, Lez Talk: A Collection of Black Lesbian Short Fiction, was named a 2017 Goldie finalist! We are honored and humbled that our work is being recognized by the Golden Crown Literary Society.

BLF Press Newsletter-April 2017


Today, April 5, 2017, marks the one-year anniversary of BLF Press's first release, Lez Talk: A Collection of Black Lesbian Short Fiction.  So much has happened with Lez Talk over the past year, including profiles on the Ms. Magazine blogHuffington Post, and meeting so many of you while we were on tour with the book. 

When I started BLF Press in 2014, I wasn't sure what direction our work would take, I just knew that I wanted to create a space where Black lesbian and queer voices would be honored, and it was my good fortune that our first title was a cacophony of Black lesbian literary voices. Since then, we've published another anthology, as well as my collection of short stories, and we've got more exciting work on the horizon.

It's the Ides of March, and I'd hoped that today might be the beginning of the end for the current political administration. It isn't, at least not so far, so we'll just keep doing what we always do: supporting and amplifying the literary work of women of color. The last several months have been trying for our nation, and I believe that we are entering a new period of political and societal unrest. Now more than ever, we need literature that reflects and accurately represents the richness of our lives as women of color. BLF Press has always been committed to amplifying this writing, and we feel a renewed urgency to ensure that marginalized voices are heard.
