Carmen Phelps is a lifelong writer and consumer of both fiction and non-fiction and has been teaching writing, literature and multi-media cultural expression in higher education for more than twenty years. Inspired by themes of identity, social justice and community-building, Carmen is most committed to writing that provokes readers to reflect upon human connections across cultures and perspectives as well as our individual capacity to influence community dynamics.
As an educator and social justice advocate, she believes in the power of artistic and cultural expression as mediums that not only document our experiences, but in fact encourage healing and communications processes which strengthen communities. A native of St. Louis, MO, she values travel and new experiences and has lived in many places throughout the country. She currently resides in Silver Spring, MD. Her debut novel, Exposures is scheduled for release in 2019.
