Necessary

In May, I took the plunge on one of my life long goals: I started BLF Press, and I have two amazing editors and an artist working with me. I'm very excited about entering the publishing arena, and yes, I know how much work it will be and I know that hundreds of people do this very same thing every year and fail. What makes BLF Press different from those other presses? Not much I suppose, other than the fact that we're inspired by Black women writers who've also done the improbable:  Maya Angelou, Toni Morrison, Barbara Smith, Toni Cade Bambara, Audre Lorde, the list goes on.  I believe, as they did, that Black women have stories to tell and that we must tell them, by any means necessary. Simple enough, and the reason I've decided to start this press dedicated to amplifying the voices of women that might otherwise get lost in the cacophony of the larger publishing world. It stands to reason then, that BLF Press is necessary.

We're just starting out, so give us a little time to show you what we're all about. We'd like to be around for a while, so we're trying to do things right. Please let us know if you'd like to know more about us, or have any questions about how we can help you create your best work.

Peace and love,

S. Andrea
